Director of Nursing
Are you a dynamic and engaging Nurse Manager looking for career progression and/or a change?

  • Wallace Street Recruitment is looking for an experienced, engaging and dynamic clinical leader, for this Director of Nursing (DON) leadership role in a private day surgery, licensed for surgery and anaesthetics
  • Currently the day surgery conducts ophthalmology procedures and is focused on improving visual outcomes for patients through innovation and best practice
  • This is an excellent opportunity to work with a progressive CEO and committed team, to deliver high standard patient experiences and outcomes
  • The overall organisation is growing, and has 11 Ophthalmology practices throughout NSW and the ACT
  • The DON has a key role in ensuring patient safety through effective executive leadership and management of the day hospital, which currently consists of 1 operating theatre and 1 procedure room and, the related services
  • Located 25kms from the Sydney CBD in NSW, this facility is well established and has a strong team spirit

As the Director of Nursing, your responsibilities will include:
  • Proactive management of the Perioperative areas under the scope of responsibility to ensure the alignment with the vision statement and strategic direction of the hospital.
  • Ensure the provision of high-quality, professional and holistic care of all patients by the effective management of staff and resources within the unit to promote and support physical, mental and social well-being of the customers.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with visiting medical officers (VMOs) along with the 11 Ophthalmology Clinics throughout NSW and ACT and, other customers.
  • Effectively balancing the clinical and management accountabilities of the role, including leading the workforce with energy and effectiveness and ensuring thorough financial oversight and operational efficiency.
  • Compliance the National Safety and Quality Health Standards (NSQHS), ACORN, Sterilisation Services, AS5369, and other relevant quality and clinical safety standards and legislative requirements.
  • Adherence to all WH&S policies and procedures and provide a safe working environment and treatment area for staff and patients.
  • Ensure that clinical and corporate governance is embedded in daily work practice.
  • Oversee the effective management of resources, inclusive of equipment and scheduling of theatre utilisation, aligning service delivery with demand and activity targets.
  • Monitor and evaluate equipment needs, use and maintenance.
  • Provide effective clinical leadership to the Perioperative services team and ensure the training and development program is appropriate to meet the needs of staff.
  • Enhance operational performance, promote innovation and research.

Essential Criteria:
  • Current AHPRA Registration - Registered Nurse
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical experience and management experience (preferably operating theatre management experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in staffing practices
  • Knowledge of hospital administration procedures, clinical governance and accreditation – including short notice surveys
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills with well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including computer skills
  • Highly motivated with strong leadership qualities
  • A commitment to a high standard of clinical and customer focused care
  • Ability to work cohesively within a team environment and develop partnerships with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), the Hospital and throughout the broader organisation
  • Proven time management and prioritisation skills
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in labour and HR management experience
  • Skills in financial management and planning
  • The ability to evaluate, collate and present outcome measures
  • Current Australian Work Rights

Ideally you will possess:
  • Post graduate qualifications in the area of specialty, or business, finance or Health Management
  • Current knowledge of legislative acts and standards relating to the relevant healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of health funding models and arrangements pertaining to private/public health sectors
  • Working knowledge of Industrial Relations Acts, regulations and other relevant statutory obligations
