PERI-OPERATIVE SERVICES MANAGER ROLE
Wallace Street Recruitment on behalf of a well-respected Private Hospital in Sydney, is seeking a Peri-Operative Services Manager to take on a leadership position within this hospital’s busy peri-operative department.
About the Hospital and the Role
The hospital has 98 patient beds and provides a large range of medical and acute services, including 7 operating theatres, Angiography Suite, a Day Surgery, 10 bed Intensive Care Unit, as well as a Mental Health Unit, Oncology Department, Pharmacy and Radiology services. The hospital specialises in brain and spine surgery, ENT surgery, general surgery, gastroenterology and endoscopy, gynaecology, angiography, interventional radiology, oral and dental surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, plastics, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, urology and vascular surgery.
The Peri-Operative Services Manager (POSM), as a member of the nursing executive team, is an integral part of the service planning, commissioning, implementation, ongoing operational activities, and is responsible for providing expertise and leadership for perioperative services at the hospital. You will work closely with the hospital executive team, Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and an amazing team to secure successful outcomes for patients.
The POSM’s role involves ensuring effective leadership and management of the Perioperative Services at the hospital, along with the goal to align with hospital objectives, while delivering a cost-efficient nursing service that emphasises exceptional, evidence-based patient care. This will be accomplished through visible and accountable leadership.
As the
Peri-Operative Services Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality and safe services.
- Fostering collaborative relationships with visiting medical officers (VMOs).
- Leading the workforce with energy and effectiveness.
- Ensuring rigorous financial oversight and operational efficiency.
- Support the suite of Perioperative services policies that reflect National Safety and Quality Health Standards (NSQHS), ACORN, Sterilisation Services and other relevant quality and clinical safety standards and legislative requirements.
- Ensure that clinical and corporate governance is embedded in daily work practice.
- Maintain positive, effective and responsive working relationship with the doctors.
- Oversee the effective management of resources, inclusive of equipment and scheduling of theatre utilisation, aligning service delivery with demand and activity targets.
- Monitor and evaluate equipment needs, use and maintenance with specialist groups and coordinate tendering and procurement processes in preparedness for executive review and approval.
- Provide effective clinical leadership to the Perioperative services team and ensure the training and development program is appropriate to meet the needs of staff.
- Promote adherence to all pertinent Key Performance Indicators.
- Actively participate in the accreditation process and lead Quality and Clinical Risk Management initiatives.
- Contributing to the formulation of strategic direction and related planning.
- Enhancing operational performance and promoting innovation.
Essential Criteria:
- Current Registration with AHPRA
- Post Graduate Qualifications in Nursing
- Minimum of 5 years senior nursing experience within the Perioperative unit
- Highly motivated with strong leadership qualities
- High degree of computer literacy including MS Office
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Previous experience at NUM level or equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A strong commitment to developing in a management role
- A commitment to a high standard of clinical and customer focused care
- Ability to work cohesively within a team environment and develop partnerships with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs)
- Proven time management and prioritisation skills
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in labour management
- Demonstrated HR management experience
- Current Australian Work Rights
